Rolex 5500 Explorer Dial | Box | Rolex Service Papers

This an amazing Rolex 5500 with Explorer dial. Serial 2094xxx dates it’s production year to 1969/1970. First a bit about the history of the 5500 with Explorer dial: Beginning in the early 60’s Rolex offered a version of the Air-King ref. 5500 with an Explorer dial. This watch is a hybrid, combining the Air-King case with the instantly recognizable Explorer dial. Like the Air-King 5500, the Explorer 5500 also has a 34mm case, which is smaller than the traditional 36mm size of the Explorer ref. 6610 and the Explorer ref. 1016 watches of the same periode.

This 5500 is in an overall good condition for it’s age. Case has been polished in the past and shows minor signs of use. The Explorer dial is in very good condition, nevertheless there is some aging in the dial visble. All Tritium luminous markers are in perfect condition without any damage and have aged in an orange hue matching the hands perfectly. The 7835 riveted bracelet bracelet with 57 endlinks and datestamp 2/70 shows some stretch and is in good overall condition. Also included is the double box with “5500” sticker on the outer box, a Explorer booklet and a Rolex service card. Watch has been serviced through Rolex in December 2016. Watch is currently running in COSC specification, loosing 1 second a day on amplitude at around 300 degrees on the timegrapher, obviously Rolex did a good job in 2016 and there is no indication for another service necessary in the next years.
