Stunning Rolex Submariner 5513 Tropical Gilt dial, SN: 1478xxx, dates it to 1966. Gilt dial is all original and very glossy with vibrant gold lettering and all luminous markers intact. Tirtium markers light up shortly, after beeing exposed to UV light – so a Tritium activated zinc sulfide lume. This dial has aged with an uncommon “star night” pattern that is visible throughout the dial in various extend. These dots are in the clear lacquer of the dial and a part of the dial aging. My watchmaker has supplied additional pictures with the dial built out of it’s case.
Original Tritium handset matches the color of the dial. Original Rolex steel bezel rotates and functions properly, having an original Rolex service insert, surrounding the domed acrylic crystal. Case has been polished in the past, but professionally, nice sharp edges and still a fat case. Reference and serial numer are clearly visible. Caseback is marked 5513 and date is stamped „VI 66“ with several watchmaker signs visible, also a sign of Rolex NY. Movement 1520 is running very strong with a correct “ROW” stamp on movement, which was Rolex import mark for the US market. No indication for a service in the near future. The original Twinlock crown has been changed in the past to a Triplock crown and tube.
Watch has been adjusted recently by Rolex authorized watchmaker, he installed a new original crown, tube and changed all gaskets. Exchange parts come with the watch. Watch has a later stretched jubilee bracelet with undated Rolex USA steel clasp, marked JB.
Original papers (V 66 60. M) dating the sale to 10/23/67. „Auto Lock“ bezel manual, dated 1966 and a Rolex service pouch come with the watch.
