Rolex Sea-Dweller 16660

A Rolex Sea-Dweller 16660, Triple Six from 1985 with SN: 8668xxx and rare Rolex SL service dial marked Swiss-T <25.As the successor of the famous and well known Sea Dweller 1665, often called as a transitional reference, this was the first Rolex divers watch to have a sapphire crystal installed and offers a diving depth rating of 4000ft. As a tool watch for deep sea divers, this was obviously a practical and impressive feature. The improved water depth rating was thanks in part to a larger helium escape valve (HEV). Also having the new movement Caliber 3035 installed, which replaced the Caliber 1570 of the previous Sea-Dweller.

This one has a gloss dial with white gold indices market Swiss-T <25, but is covered with SL, haven’t seen many of those dials before, a very rare piece that has been serviced to full SL – dial, hands, and pearl on bezel. Makes it a real tool watch for everyday use. All SL parts glow as they should. Case appears to be detailed in the past, but is still in fat condition, which can be seen on a Sea-Dweller how deep the HEV is still within the case. Has signs of use, but not abuse, and can be easily polished without beeing downpolished ! Has a 83160 bracelet and 592 endlinks in good condition with moderate stretch.

Watch has passed a pressure testing recently by my watchmaker and is waterproof according to it’s specification, even I do not recommend excessive diving sessions with a vintage watch and can not guarantee for waterproofness. Gaskets have been changed, plus the crown. All old parts are coming with the watch. The bracelet has also been satinized.

Running strong with no indication for a service in the near future. The most perfect toolwatch for every day and ready to wear.
